Walter "Scott” Fricke

Originally from New Jersey, joined the Navy soon after graduating from Middletown Township High School. 

U.S. NAVY  1976 – 1991

Petty Officer First Class (E-6)

Desert Shield/Desert Storm

Commands:

        USS Okinawa (LPH-3), San Diego

        Naval Ships Systems Engineering Station, Philadelphia

        USS Reclaimer (ARS-42), Pearl Harbor

        Amphibious Construction Battalion One, Coronado 

Earned the Navy Expeditionary Medal while on station in the  Persian Gulf during the Iran Hostage Crisis (1980) and the Southwest Asia Service Medal and Kuwait Liberation Medal for Desert Storm. 

After being honorably discharged:

DoD civilian employed as a Fire Marshal at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard until its closure, then a Repair Inspector at the Naval Submarine Support Facility, US Submarine Base, Groton CT where I retired after 28 years. 

 Currently reside in Westerly, RI with wife Samantha, who currently holds several positions in the VFW Auxiliary including State President for 2026-2027 and President for Post 8955. Raised 8 children and have 7 grandchildren. 

Have been a volunteer firefighter (in NJ and RI) for 50 years as well as a shipboard firefighter during my Navy days. Currently a member and Past Captain of the Westerly Fire Department and an Instructor at the Rhode Island Fire Training Academy

 

VFW Life Member and currently Commander at Post 8955 and Department of Rhode Island Senior Vice-Commander.
