Brad Donnelly was elected as the Rhode Island Department Quartermaster in June 2022.  He served in the United States Navy from 1993 to 2019, earning his VFW eligibility serving in the NATO Operations enforcing the embargo on Serbia and Bosnia as well as serving in the Arabian Gulf and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.  In addition to six sea-going ship tours as a surface warfare officer, he served ashore at the Naval Academy, Afloat Training Group Pacific, COMDESRON Fourteen and US Pacific Command. He ended his 26-year career on the Faculty of the Joint Military Operations Department of the United States Naval War College.  His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation (2), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal (4), Navy Commendation Medal (3), and the Navy Achievement Medal (2).  Brad joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 2018 as a member-at-large through Post 9447 in Newport, Rhode Island where he maintains his Life membership. He is currently serving as the Post Senior Vice Commander, where he has served since 2021. He also currently serves as the District 2 Adjutant and Quartermaster.   He received his Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1993 from the U. S. Naval Academy and his Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College as a Mahan Research Scholar. He is currently employed as an Associate Professor at the U.S. Naval War College.  Brad is a member of the American Legion, where he is currently a Post Commander, and the Surface Navy Association, where he formerly served on the Board of Directors.  He lives in Jamestown, RI with his wife Eileen.
